The Sky Does Not Forgive: When the Dream Shatters

Accidents, training, and memory: what the tragedies of April 2026 teach us Aviation is a world of dreams that defy gravity. But when those dreams shatter, the silence that follows is deafening. April 2026 has come to an end, leaving behind a heavy trail and a deep sense of helplessness. A toll that shakes the industry and reminds us how far we still are from the “Vision Zero” outlined by ICAO. Despite increasingly advanced technologies and rigorous safety protocols, reality continues to impose a simple truth: risk can never be completely eliminated. From the highlands of South Sudan to the forests of Indonesia, April saw lives and engines fall silent with a frequency that deeply affects those who live aviation as a mission, not just a profession. A Memory That Resurfaces Yet it is the accident on April 29 in Parafield, Australia, that strikes me the most because it brings back a memory that never truly fades. On that day, a Di...

April 26th – World Pilots’ Day: The Heart of Aviation Excellence

April 26th marks a fundamental date for our industry: it is the moment the world celebrates the Pilot, a role that for over a century has embodied progress, responsibility, and a profound dedication to duty.

A Heritage That Unites

This anniversary was established to honor the memory of Fesa Evrensev, among Turkey’s first military pilots and a symbol of the origins of modern aviation. Thanks to the initiative of international organizations such as IFALPA (International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations), since 2014 this date has become a global benchmark for all flight professionals, transcending geographical borders and cultural barriers.

Celebrating this day means recognizing that behind every safe takeoff and landing lies a continuous commitment to excellence. The pilot is not merely a highly qualified technician, but the guardian of a tradition built on safety, discipline, and precision passed down from generation to generation.

One Great Family Under One Sky

Aviation is much more than an economic or technological sector: it is one great family. In this complex reality, every role is deeply interconnected: from the technicians ensuring aircraft efficiency to the instructors shaping new generations, and finally to those operating at the controls.

While the pilot represents the most visible image of this system, this anniversary honors the entire aeronautical ecosystem. It is the celebration of a shared mission: to keep the sky a space for connection, safety, and development for all humanity.

Institutional Conclusion

As professionals committed daily to the growth of this sector, we have a duty to honor those who have chosen this path a journey defined by responsibility, sacrifice, and vision.

My Message to Colleagues

"To all pilots, veterans, and trainees, who with professionalism and courage turn every flight into an example of precision and safety. To you, representing the tip of the spear in a complex organizational and human machine, we offer our most sincere gratitude. We are proud to be part of this community and to work together to maintain the highest standards our profession demands.

Happy World Pilots’ Day to you all!"
